Dear Birthparent(s),

As you can see from my profile picture, I am hoping to adopt a child as a single mother. The desire to be a mother, something I feel at my very core, has brought me to this decision. This feels like the natural path for me, since my family has already been blessed by adoption and I know what an amazing gift it can be. My nephew and seven of my cousins joined our family through adoption or foster care.

I want to assure you that while my situation may not be traditional, I have everything I need to provide a child with a stable, loving home. I feel I have the strength, patience, creativity, and heart it takes to nurture a child, and I have the resources and support system to provide them with the love and guidance they need to thrive. My parents, siblings, and extended relatives are excited to welcome another child into our family and will be a constant, loving presence in their life. Having a successful career with the federal government offers me a flexible schedule, paid family leave, and other helpful benefits. I also own a home in a safe, child-friendly neighborhood in Denver with access to parks, bike trails, outdoor activities and excellent schools.

To me parenting is about showing a child love and creating opportunities for them to grow and discover who they are. It is also about giving them a sense of security as they navigate our ever more complicated world. Some of the most important lessons I learned growing up came from times of disappointment and challenge. I am so thankful that my parents didn’t always protect me from those things, but rather supported me and helped me learn to manage them. I intend to parent in the same way. My own childhood was filled with books, art, games, and a lot of laughter. Creativity and self-expression were always celebrated. I envision those same things for my child.

Parenting is challenging for any household, but having a strong family unit behind me means this child will grow up with an endless supply of love and laughter. Being a mother has long been a dream of mine, something I always felt would be a part of my journey. Thank you for considering me to be a part of your adoption plan.

With sincere appreciation,

Susan
